This race kicks off Harlem Week with a course that takes you through the iconic streets and hills of Harlem, honoring civil rights leader Percy Sutton. You'll experience the neighborhood's energy firsthand, with local music playing and enthusiastic spectators cheering from every corner as you wind through this historic area.
The race attracts a solid field - last year saw over 5,000 finishers - and offers 9+1 credit toward NYC Marathon entry qualification. Race-day bib pickup is available from 6:30-8:00 AM at the Percy Sutton Educational complex, but they cut it off just 10 minutes after the start, so don't be late.
There's also a free kids' event (Rising NYRR) for ages 2-18 that runs alongside the main race, making it a nice family-friendly event that celebrates both running and Harlem's rich cultural heritage.
